Now for some of the science behind a HITZone workout! The Afterburn Effect or EPOC (Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption) is a measurably increased rate of oxygen intake following strenuous activity intended to erase the body’s “oxygen deficit.”
There is a very strong correlation between the intensity of exercise and the number of calories burned after the exercise has finished. When your body is pushed during exercise such as the high intensity training you will do at The HITZone, it can take anywhere up to three days for your metabolism to return to normal.
The good news for most of us is, that it has been suggested that the best time to consume a modest cheat meal is after high intensity exercise. This is because muscles are low on glycogen as your body has used these during the HIT session. A sugary or starchy treat is more likely to be stored as glycogen rather than fat! Whilst we wouldn’t encourage you to make this a habit after exercise, it is nice to know that you are allowed to now and again!
